Design unique packaging for Bordeau Chesnel’s range of rillettes!

Every country has its iconic unique food specialty and rillettes is one of them for France. Rillettes are a kind of spreadable potted meat made from pork mainly and goose. French love rillettes as a starter or appetizer, spread on a slice of bread, or in a sandwich, as a snack. It is an indulgent product to treat yourselves and your family or friends.

Bordeau Chesnel is the most famous Rillettes brand in France. The founders, Jules Bordeau and Anna Chesnel were prime movers when they changed the packaging of rillettes to address the need of travellers wanting to carry them on the train to Paris. 

Over the years, the brand has evolved, its packaging switched to plastic and its range has grown to other flavors. Today, Bordeau Chesnel is an iconic French brand and the favorite rillettes you can find in all supermarkets, but other brands have copied its style and pack making it more difficult to stay number one among the French.

Today, Bordeau Chesnel needs your creativity to provide another breakthrough in its history by designing a signature pack and an identity for its range of rillettes. Can you help?

Brand and Packaging design for Vegetable Spreads range

Design a unique brand/pack design for a new vegetable spreads range, soon to be launched in the UK!

Remember the days where vegan eating was considered weird or extreme, and more the domain of hippies and activists? These days have long gone, and many people have started to buy into plant-based foods and aspire to eating less meat.

Millennials are central drivers of a worldwide shift to eating less meat, and plant-based products are growing the world-over. In the UK, large retailers like Tesco, Sainsbury's and Waitrose have significantly expanded their own plant-based offerings, many in spreads format, another popular trend in the UK.

Our sponsor, an international producer of premium food products, has developed a new, great tasting, nutritious vegetable spreads range (see Image 1). The products are 100% vegan, contain no additives, and are completely free of all allergens (no soya, egg, gluten, lactose, milk). Besides being super-tasty, they are nutritious, low in saturated fat, a source of fiber, and they have a very low salt content.

One of UK’s largest retailers loves the product/taste of these new spreads so much they would like to stock them as soon as possible. The challenge is that the brand/packaging is not suitable for the UK market, and that’s where you come in! We have been moved and inspired by your responses, coming from all over the world. You told us that, in a world driven by technology, human relationships are more essential than ever. That time is precious and that we need to disconnect from our screens to pay attention again to others and find inspiration from them. That, as creatives and designers, we can play a role inventing more sustainable and inclusive experiences that also have a social impact. That by changing ourselves, we can change the world, and that each human being is a treasure. And finally, that we need to take action and play our part, no matter how small or big, because every idea counts and because our planet needs it.

Convince people to recharge with healthier-perceived snacks during their breaks!

Meet our Creator of the Month - Pang!

"The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul", once said Dieter F. Uchtdorf. And this is one of the favourite quotations of our Creator of the Month: Pang! Let's know more about this creator who recently moved from Philippines to New Zealand... What a dream! 

Tell us a bit more about yourself !

My name is Farrah but my friends call me Pang (thus the username). I love making crafts, creating DIY projects and sketching. I graduated with bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Learning about computers and programming allowed me to take my creativity into the digital world. I shared some of my sketches and artworks ​here​.
My first job in college was game checking where I check the games, play them and create their descriptions and instructions. Because of this, I developed a passion for creating games. This is also the reason why most of the ideas I submit in eYeka are based on gaming.
I live in the Philippines which I consider a family-oriented country. Family is very important for Filipinos that they are compelled to travel abroad and become overseas workers to provide not only for their immediate families but also relatives. This has been the case with my mom. At a young age, I understood the need for money and how the lack of it creates distance.
When I was in college, I failed two of my major subjects and had to extend a year in my studies. Knowing that my family wasn’t financially well-off to pay for extra tuition and allowance, I looked for other means and this is when eYeka entered my life. The winning prize allowed me to pay my tuition and eventually, to graduate in college.
I became involved with the Deaf community since college. I worked as a part-time Deaf interpreter for deaf students who were pursuing Information Technology. From there, I realized my passion to teach. Being involved in the community opened my eyes to a different world and I commited to use my talents to serve others.
After graduating from college, I married my best friend. We have a lovely daughter who has become my new driving force to create and innovate. We used to live with my husband’s parents but after winning another contest, we were able to move out into an apartment.
Right now, my family is in New Zealand and guess what? eYeka is also a part of this momentous achievement. Through the prize money we were able to apply for our visa. I’m going to pursue postgraduate diploma in Information Technology and hopefully, become a teacher and help Deaf people who want to engage in information technology.
I don’t have a lot photos of myself because I’m camera shy. Although I like looking at pictures, I love reading and writing words more. I wrote some stories, poems and reflections in my blog ​here​. I enjoy reading books about self-discovery, spirituality and religious texts. My definition of fun, which might seem odd, is sitting on a corner reading a good book. I love learning about languages and other cultures although I am not very fond of travelling.

How did you find out about eYeka?
I learned eYeka through my bestfriend who is now my husband. He introduced me to eYeka when I was having financial problems after failing my subjects in college. I was able to win my first contest through his account.

Do you have a creative process? If so, can you share a bit of your secret with our community? Where do you look for inspiration?
Recently, I learned to ask myself these questions before entering a contest:
1.) Will I truly want to spend enough hours or even days to really create an innovative idea or creative entry for this?
2.) Do I have the skills and knowledge to create not only an acceptable entry but an entry worth sharing?
3.) Lastly, how will I help others by joining this contest? Am I joining it because a group of people will benefit the idea? Am I joining this contest to help someone financially through the prize money?
Over the years, I’ve learned that I am more determined and involved to finish a project if I am emotionally engaged with it. Knowing that someone will benefit from what I’m doing gives meaningful purpose to the contest instead of just merely winning.
Then, I write down the important words from the brief. I spend days researching about the Brand (visiting their website and looking at their products and About Us page) and the product they require.
After making an entry, I put myself in the brand’s position and ask myself, “Would I implement this entry if I had the money?”. If I wouldn’t want to implement it, I revise. If I would, I upload the entry and pray for the best.

When submitting an entry, how do you keep positive if it is rejected or not selected as a winning entry?
By appreciating others’ work instead.
I pat myself in the back for doing my best and I look at the winners’ entries. When I do this, I begin to recognize the creativity of every individual and how different minds contribute exceptional ideas. I learn from other people and improve from their contributions.

What would you like to achieve (or have already achieved) with the prizes you will win/have won?
I was able to pay for my college and now I’m a graduate!
I was able to live with my family in a space we could call our own.
And now, I am living our dreams to be in the wonderful country of New Zealand and pursue my studies for the Deaf community.
eYeka has allowed me to be where I am right now. Much more than the prize or recognition, what I would like to achieve from eYeka now is being able to contribute not only good enough ideas but great ideas that will revolutionize the world. Too ambitious? But I believe through eYeka, people like me will be able to make this world a better place through our creative minds.

If you had to describe eYeka in 3 words, what would they be?
Solutions. Improvement. Engagement.
Because eYeka gives solutions to business and societal problems; eYeka helps people to improve in their skills as they join more contests; and eYeka is also a community that helps creators to engage with each other by peeking through their creative thoughts.

Finally, is there anything you would like to share with our creators (secret, tip…)?
Don’t do it for the money​. I joined many contests in eYeka with the intention to win and get money and I lost all of them. But when I do it for a deeper reason (helping my family or helping other people), I create ideas with love and passion and these ideas win.
Never stop learning​. Think outside the box by reading lots and lots and relating the contest to everything you read even if they don’t make sense at first. If you’re not a reader, observe your surroundings. Connect your interests with the contest. Are you passionate about gaming? Or sports? Or business? Learn how the contest can enhance your interest or how your interest can contribute to ideas.
Have faith​. Believe in yourself and believe that you can make an idea that will change the world. I usually listen to uplifting songs like “Hall of Fame” by The Script ft. will.i.am and “Glorious” by David Archuleta to remind myself that I can do it. Even if you lose, even if you barely win, don’t lose heart. Believe in the amazing talents and skills that you were given and use it to help others.
