We eventually launched the public website which is from now on viewable by anyone. The home-page presents our featured artists and best partners, so they can promote their videos and photos more easily. The player has a better compression, which means basically that the image's quality is much better.
We are glad to present you the Voyage channel. If you enjoy shooting videos and taking pictures during your trips, don't hesistate to post it on this channel. Check it out to learn more about the submission call.
Jeremie's pictures look as if they were taken in some ghost towns. There is only room for metal giants and concrete colossus, nothing else. Those photographs of functionalist architecture naturally evokesThe Becher and the new german generation that followed them, including Thomas Ruff, Candida Hofer and last but not least Andreas Gursky.
These pictures are part of an exhibition about the Sangatte emigrants, which took place in 2002. Their faces are rugged and yet they look like ghosts as they cross those empty beaches.

I am back from Clermont-Ferrand where I took part in a conference dedicated to the short-films digital distribution issues. There were mainly two kinds of actors. Web TVs such as Google TV, and authors. What Web TVs value is content and traffic, meaning: the more content they offer, the more trafic they get, and the more money they make. In other words, value = traffic. To the authors, the main issue is about how to make a living out of their creations. They care about their works and their rights, money is a means of production, not an aim in itself. Value = creation. It is all about creation and valuation : create films and pictures, building a community around it, monetising their creations one way or another.
At Eyeka we have a clear understanding of those issues. As a matter of fact, we stay exactly in between those two kinds of actors. On the one hand we think our authors deserve the best, and we do our best to promote their creations while warranting the respect of their rights. We offer fair conditions and accept to pay the price for great videos and photos, so authors can keep on doing the good work. On the other hand, we promote quality so users and partners get the benefit of surfing on Eyeka and using its services. For Eyeka, Value = quality. Bulding a fair and solid ecosystem between authors and viewers is possible only if we pay one another the respect one deserves. This principle is part and parcel of the Eyeka's values.
We have launched a new player and i hope you'll like it. It's beautiful. The command and info bar under the image appears and fades when you drag on it. So you have more space for your images. Try it, play the video, wait a few seconds until the menu disappears, then move your mouse on the lower part of the player hereunder. Moreover, you can click on the page icon to access your Lightbox's playlist and select more easily the video you want to watch.
In last weeks's publication, we have also made a number of significant improvements on the UI : Eyeka's blog is - as you can see ! - integrated in the web site to support our authors and interact with you, the TV channels have changed, and we corrected some bugs in the "album" function. More info in French here. As before, you can pull together several images, photos and videos, in one single lightbox and export it to your blog as i just did it hereunder.
On a former post on Franck Perrier's blog, , Gregory commented on downloading a video on Eyeka to share it elsewhere. We have not adressed this because it does not match the vision we have for our business. Eyeka is not about taking videos from authors to allow anyone to distribute it on sharing sites. Our authors can do that themselves. Eyeka is about showcasing these videos in a like environment, building programs from them so that we can eventually create revenu for our authors when we distribute some of these programs on other media. We hope that you'll visit our website to enjoy what the folks are uploading.
