Hello eYeka people!
The first month of 2017 has passed! It’s very fast, isn’t it? Are you ready to celebrate the upcoming warmer spring season in most of the place around the world? (or cooler season for Australia & New Zealand :p). Before the celebration, we want to introduce you to a gentleman from France. His name is Francis Prat or boonkis on eYeka. Let’s learn from his experience that how come he could be able to win a lot of contests! Let’s celebrate this Creator of the Month of February 2017 together with us!
Hi Francis! Thank you for your time today! Can you start by telling us a little about yourself? What brought you to the creative world? What do you do outside of eYeka?
I have studied Tourism (but I’ve spent most of my time doing Tourism in the west indies, Canada…) After that I’ve studied Geography, Cartography, and Urban Planning in order to do internship or find some nice adventures in exotic places. I’ve finally worked in a small land planning consulting firm in Nice (France), but I was bored of the office so I worked as a house builder (south of France). At that time I was doing some small graphic design work and I first created an account in eYeka : I only made one or 2 entries… I was too busy with jobs, foundation (for kids of Kinshasa – Congo).
I’m actually back in France, in Paris, where I’m doing some graphic design mission and joining several eYeka contests.
When and why did you join eYeka?
In 2009, I think. I’ve just created an account but never got involved in it. About 4 years ago I’ve decided to live in Colombia, to make a living, get a business. I worked with a bunch of people and we have created a web agency! But I had to leave that team! It was so much better like that. I had a nice movie project, too, but it fell down for many reasons. I was out of money, visa, job… and then I remember about eYeka and I’ve started to join some contests. (I was about to completely leave the graphic design world)
After 3 months I won a €500. It was nothing but good enough to live 1 month in Medellin. So I’ve really started doing that seriously. I won one contest that allowed me to get a really nice apartment with a great terrace. I’ve stayed there for about 2 years after that I came back to France in June 2016. I missed France.
Can you share your creative process with eYeka contests? What inspires you?
I read the interesting contest (more than € 3500 - not about woman problem…) I read some and start to think. After that I try to go out for a jogging or exercise and I try to keep thinking to get a good idea. Next, I surf the internet to have some more ideas… or go check old contests to get inspired.
So far, you have submitted 278 entries, you have had 196 accepted entries overall and you have won 12 prizes…This is huge! Can you tell us what pushes you to participate?
I guess I do 50% of the contest just to get busy. I like to participate because we have to produce a professional work even if we are not part of a big company. It is more attractive than making some logo for a friend. I like the idea that nobody tells you what to do, what to change, and don’t have to negotiate for the money--just do your best and hope they will not choose the worst of the entries…
Do you have projects or works which make you especially proud?
The last I won: new diapers for China (Name Logo Packaging) it will pay for the diapers for my future baby!
Wow! Congratulations in advance about the baby! What have you been able to do or to achieve with the prizes you have won?
I’ve been able to live and travel in Colombia (Cuba, Mexico…), been able to save money for my future wedding (18 February 2017) and I will pay for the diapers…
Can you tell us what are the inspirations that help you coming up with interesting and creative ideas?
Main inspiration is mixing different ideas, concepts… nothing is really new; we just have to remix, adapt, revolute the existing things. I do believe that common sense and tradition are always good source of inspiration… make the tradition more hi-tech and connect human people, face to face… Create things to be shared and to make human less wild.
Can you describe eYeka in one short sentence?
In 3 “words” : Mobility – Stimulating – good butter on your bread
Anything you would like to say to conclude? What advices would you give to new creators?
To conclude, eYeka was a great chance for me in the last 3 years when I was travelling… I will still submit some entries but I will need a more “regular” job to live in Paris… or not! Still thinking of doing some new things in new places.
Advice : do it! not only to win but also to learn how to work on nice brief, but do it seriously, otherwise you are just wasting your time..
Thank you so much Francis! We hope that after the wedding and the baby, you’ll still have time to play on this eYeka, the World Biggest Creative Playground!
Have a nice February everyone!
