Creator of Sept 2011 – shu_wu

Sep 27

Our creator of September 2011 is Luo QiQi a.k.a. shu_wu, the animator from China. There’s actually a team behind shu_wu, and QiQi is here to share more about his team. Walter Payton said, “We are stronger together than we are alone”. This phrase is especially true for them. QiQi and his team have created magnificent creations together! Let’s know more about them through our short conversation with QiQi below ;)

Luo Qiqi (shu_wu)

Please introduce yourself to us :)

Hello everyone, my name is Luo QiQi (罗奇奇) from Nanning, China. I’m known as shu_wu in the eYeka community.

I graduated from an Animation school and I’ve always wanted to be a good Animator. I had been working in several big cities in China, but finally decided to go back to my hometown and set up an animation studio with my friends.

Besides animation, I do enjoy painting, travelling, watching movie, and cooking as well.

We noticed that you have participated in several contests in eYeka so far, namely Coca-Cola, Actimel, Hyundai, Lenovo, and Lux. All of your animations were done very nicely!  May we know why did you choose to participate in those contests?

Hahaha, thank you! They were not “very nice” actually… maybe “not bad” is more appropriate to describe them :)

The reason why I chose those contests is that all of them are famous brands that I am quite familiar with, and the prizes were really attractive!

All of your creations have excellent storylines. We can feel the emotion behind each story, whether it’s funny or touching. What are the inspirations behind them?

I like to imagine and make up stories. I think every single animation that I’ve done has a nice story behind it. It’s always very exciting to bring the story to life!

My inspiration comes from my daily life through my observation. I can stand in the balcony for a long time, just to watch people passing by and imagine their stories.

I also like communicating with people, so I will discover a lot of interesting things that I’ve never experienced before.

Lastly, I like to connect various different things together, for example a fish, a dog driving a car, and a man playing golf… How will you imagine the story to be? I’d love to do that! :)

What are the things you like about eYeka, and what are the things that you think could be improved on or added in the future?

To be honest, firstly is the prize. They are very attractive to us!

Secondly, eYeka is a very good and fair platform for creators. Every time I see the brief, I will come up with a lot of interesting ideas. And I really enjoy creating animation just for fun, not for the prize.

As for what can be improved… hmmm as a Chinese creator, I hope we can have a translation system here or a way for us to communicate with other creators from different parts of the world, as I’d really like to share my ideas with more eYeka creators but my English is not good :(

Any advise to your fellow aspiring creators?

Don’t care about the prizes too much.  If you start, you are already succeeding halfway, as the creating process is more important.

I know creating is hard because it takes a lot of time and you need to focus. This is so true especially for us, because we work as a team. Sometimes we have different opinions, but we always follow a rule: enjoy creating!

Last question: Do you have any experience in eYeka that you would like to share with us?

I really enjoy myself here in eYeka even though I haven’t won any prizes just yet. One thing I learn from eYeka is that it’s important and it’s always good to learn from other creators, to learn from their works and their creativity.

“If someone has already created a chair, of course you can learn and create another chair, but how could you stand out from the rest?”This is the question I always ask myself.

Lastly, thank you for giving me the chance to meet fellow creators of eYeka!

———————————————

Thanks for sharing with us, QiQi! We certainly love your positivity and thank you for supporting eYeka. We definitely can’t wait to see your next creations. Keep up the good work!

Dell/Intel Contest – Explanation

Sep 21

Dell_Intel

We realize some of you are still a little bit confused about the Dell brief and seems like there’s a big question mark in your head with questions such as “What do Dell and Intel have to do with relationships?”, “What is the purpose of this contest?”, etc.

So here’s something to make it clearer for you. Dell and Intel have created a series of episodes about the relationship between Dell and consumers, which is portrayed through a girl’s experience in finding the right guy for her. And we’re going to show you the first episode right here, right now.

The purpose of this contest is to create videos that will be used as sequels to this first episode. Yes, you read it right! :)

To remind you once again, the brief is to create a video that shows how a girl takes a good guy for granted, only to want him back when he’s left. Some of you also asked us what does it mean by “taking for granted”.

“Taking for granted” means you are not appreciating someone (or something) enough and you treat it in a careless or indifferent manner. In the context of Lizzy and Dell, Lizzy is taking Dell for granted as she doesn’t listen to him, was easily distracted when they were on a date, and she is interested in another guy – DMac.

Let me give you an example to make it easier: I am in a relationship with a very nice guy who is always sweet to me, take such a good care of me, and basically just being a good boyfriend that will not cheat on me. Then one day I broke up with him because I think that he is boring and not interesting enough (because he is too good and too perfect). After we’ve broken up, I regret of doing it and I keep on asking him to come back to be with me because I miss him sooo much and I realize that he is the best for me and I couldn’t find any other guy who is as good as him.

See how I took the guy for granted? ;)

I hope it’s clear enough and when you are creating your entry, do not worry about the need to inserting Dell and/or Intel logo or featuring Dell computer in it. These things are not necessary. The most important thing is to create a video based on the brief (so make sure you read it thoroughly to fully understand it). Do send us an email if you need further explanation.

This contest will be closed in 14 days, precisely on 5th October 2011. So click here to participate and remember, a total prize of USD 10,000 awaits three winners! :)

Help Danone make plain yoghurt desirable

Sep 16

Danone Egypt

Yoghurt is a truly magical food. Why? Because it is a combination of all the calcium found in milk, vitamins, protein, and friendly bacteria, which is essential for healthy strong bodies. Danone understands this and so they came up with plain set spoonable yoghurt so customers may have a simple, enjoyable, and easy way to enjoy all the goodness of yoghurt anytime of the day, all year round.

Did you know that while yoghurt is enjoyed all around the world, Egyptians are among those who eat the less yoghurt compared to other nations? Although yoghurt is perceived as being healthy in Egyptian consumers’ minds, it is mostly eaten during the month of Ramadan.

Now we would need your help to create a 30 seconds TV ad (no more, no less) to convince Egyptian families (especially the adults in the family) to enjoy Danone plain yoghurt all year round.

Your TV ad must be an emotionally engaging and humorous story that will catch Egyptian families’ interest and make them realize that plain yoghurt is tasty, healthy, and fun to eat all year long.

The TV ad can be in the form of video or animation.

And here’s what we have in store for you:

1st Prize: USD 5,000
2
nd Prize: USD 3,000
3
rd Prize: USD 2,000

Oh, and also do remember to read the brief and important guidelines thoroughly before you start creating your entry. There are a few points that need to be taken into consideration :)

When you are ready, click here to view the brief and to participate!

Submission deadline would be on 26 October 2011. So grab that spoon and dig in to that tub of yoghurt (maybe it will give you some inspiration? :p)!
