Creator of August 2011: VisualCrow

Aug 31

Our creator of the month is Rio Matthew a.k.a VisualCrow. This Motion Graphic artist is not a newbie in eYeka. He has been with us for 2.5 years as of now and has created lots of inspiring and awesome creations! Let us know more about him ;)

Rio

Hello! Would you like to tell us more about yourself?

Hello! My name is Rio Matthew and I’m a Motion Graphic artist from Jakarta, Indonesia, and I’m currently working in Singapore. I like any forms of arts, mostly painting, sculpture, and movies.  I found inspirations in everyday life. From nature to technology, there is always something interesting that you can make into art.

We know it’s been awhile, but congratulation once again for winning the Second Prize of adidas contest! What was it that made you want to participate in it?

Thanks! When I saw the product, I thought there were a lot of elements to play with and the brief itself really pushed to me to try new stuffs. So I played around with some ideas and experiments. I was really having a great time creating the entry for this competition.

You have done such a great job for your TAG Heuer and Hyundai entries as well! What are the inspirations behind them?

Both competitions are very exciting. The inspiration for Hyundai came from the idea of a birthday present.  Before you open it, you tried to shake it or weigh it to guess what is inside, but sometimes the content is better than what you have expected when you finally unwrapped it. Just like Veloster, a car with a lot of features.

For TAG Heuer, after I saw the brief and the watch, I was thinking how something perfect is created. And I use “birth” as an example. So the whole video is about the process of reproduction in a techno-surreal-abstract kinda way. I probably went a bit too far on this one. Haha…

What are the things you like about eYeka, and what are the things that you think could be improved on or added in the future?

I like eYeka as a medium for creativity. The brands and the briefs really challenge me to push my limit in design and it allows me to experience new stuffs as well. And I am really proud to be in the community of such fine artists.  For the future, perhaps the social functions can be improved. So probably we could share some information or tricks among the creators to polish our works and make them even better.

Any advise to your fellow aspiring creators?

Have fun when you are doing your project. The competitions are a very good way to improve yourself. So don’t let the prizes scare you or excite you too much. Just do your best, enjoy it and the awards will follow soon after.

———————————————

Thanks for sharing with us, Rio! We will definitely take note about your suggestion. Stay creative and we look forward for more creations from you in our next contests :)

You can check out more of his works on his profile page.

Taken for Granted? Oh no…

Aug 25

Dell_Intel

It has been said that in the game of love, nice guys finish last. Their amiability tends to be taken for granted. Some girls think that nice guys are boring and smooth-talking guys are more appealing. Is it true? ;)

However, it has also been said that you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone. Often times, it is only when the nice guy has left that the girl realizes how much she misses him. Aha!

What do you think of the above? Kinda true, huh, girls and guys? ;)

A new contest has come onboard eYeka and we certainly love how fun the brief is!

Based on the statements above, show us in a 30-60 seconds video or animation about what it is like for a girl to take a nice guy for granted and only to want him back after he has gone.

Interesting, isn’t it? :D

Ahem…. does this ring a bell to some of you? :p

Anyway, we have USD 10,000 to be given out to the 3 creations:

1st Prize: USD 5,000
2nd Prize: USD 3,000
3rd Prize: USD 2,000

Taken for Granted contest will be running from 24 August to 5 October 2011.

Check out the brief here! We are waiting to see your story ;)

Home & outdoor results!

kellog

Congratulations to you all! We have 7 prizes to go around. Thank you all for the great entries. The ones below are the most cherished by the Jury! We were so happy by the innovation that you’ve had. Thank you for your input.
Note: The italics are what the Jury thought about the media.

  • 1st prize of $1,500 USD goes to OhYourGod01 and their creation “Future exercise lives with augmented reality”
This one shows some interesting capabilities slightly outside of what is currently available, if we were to use this, we’d ask him to note things a little more clearly – i.e. the fact that he’s “running” against his friend who is in her living room – work-out and compete with people who live far away.
  • 2nd prize of $500 USD goes to artelledesign and their creation “Bicycle Bar”
While the creative on this one isn’t perfect, we think whoever did this came up with a really interesting and funny way to incorporate exercise into their daily routine. It’s great on all accounts combining exercise, environmentalism and drinks all under the same bracket! At the very least, this gets major bonus points for humor.
  • 3rd prize of $100 USD goes to syravi and their creation “Green Gym ver3″
Your rich illustration of how energy produced in gyms could be stored and used pleased us, and we’d love to see it happen in the future. It seems to be such an obvious idea, but we’re still waiting for it…
  • 4th prize of $100 USD goes to imbapilipinas and their creation “Augmented reality game exercise (ARGE)”
Your augmented reality training mirror combines total freedom of movement with interactivity, which we found very cool. We particularly liked the “combat mode” on which you fight against a virtual ennemy, great idea.
  • 5th prize of $100 USD goes to bwbarr and their creation “The workout office chair”
We’ve had quite a lot of workout office furniture, but your idea was justified by the lack of space that some people have, especially in big cities.
  • 6th prize of $100 USD goes to limonade and their creation “Smart hula hoopope”
We like the idea of improving an existing device, and it proves that you don’t necessarily need something different to innovate: just add measuring functions to transform a traditional object into a smart training device.
  • 7th prize of $100 USD goes to push203 and their creation “Working out vans for the working out people”
The idea of a workout outlet that comes to people is very interesting, it could be useful in rural areas for example. Exercising is more important than owning exercise devices… and your idea brings this possibility to the people. Great!

Once more, thank you all for your amazing creations! We hope that we brought some extra joy to your beautiful day!

See you at eYeka!

More time for Lux contest!

Aug 18

Lux_Banner

Hello everyone! ^^

Lux has decided to extend the contest just for your guys. Cos we’ve received comments from some of you, saying that there was not enough time for you to create an entry due to the busy schedule, etc., when you actually would very much like to participate.

Therefore, it has been decided that the contest will be extended for one more week! It means more time for you to create your entries! :D

If you are participating, do remember these few points below:

  1. You do not need to feature an artist/talent as the “true beauty” in your video. If you are featuring one, please make sure that her face is not shown, because the main point of the video is the revealing of the “true beauty” at the end of the video. The “true beauty” will be the photo of the Facebook user who will be using a Facebook application to upload her photo to the end frame when the “true beauty” is revealed.

  2. Your entry has to be able to build excitement and anticipation leading to the big reveal of the “true beauty”.

  3. With regards to the reference video we are showing on the contest page, please note that it is just to show you how it builds anticipation to the viewers. As for the tone and manners of your entry, please make sure that it is elegant, glamorous and sophisticated.

  4. Don’t forget to spare some space on the last frame that will be used to insert the picture of the “true beauty” later on. You can find out more on the “Guidelines” in the brief.

Let us give you an example: Imagine the world’s most famous artist is going to finally release his masterpiece to the world. Everyone from all around the world gathers at the gallery just to catch a glimpse of this masterpiece. Imagine the anticipation, the enthusiasm of the audience, waiting for the reveal of the masterpiece.

Finally, the moment has come. The great artist is going to reveal his masterpiece. The audience simply holds their breath while the red suede fabric covering the painting drops on the floor.

The masterpiece is revealed. It shows a true beauty.

Now that is the kind of atmosphere we would like to see in your video: anticipation and excitement that leads to the big reveal of the “true beauty”. It has to be elegant and sophisticated. Imagine yourself as one of the audience there, and maybe it will make it easier for you to come up with an idea. ;)

But, please do not use this story right away, because it was meant to give you an idea on how the feeling of excitement and anticipation should be in your entry. :)

And here’s another example from one of our creators. Take a look:

So guys, let’s grab your gears now and unleash your creativity. Create the trend, break the rules, don’t be a follower, and show us the excitement leading to the big reveal of a true beauty!

Click here to participate! Remember, 25th August 2011 is the new deadline ;)

Something regarding ANEW contest

Aug 16

Anew

Hi guys,

ANEW contest is ending in 2 weeks time, so here’s some tips for you: when you are working on the entries for ANEW, do remember that each of your ad must be able to show the key selling points (the information on these can be found under ‘Appendix’) of each product range and the targeted age group as well.

For example: Reversalist is targeted to women in their forties who want to reverse the signs of ageing, and try to turn back the proverbial clock. These products target wrinkles, firmness and discoloration with a technology called “Actvinol” (these are the key selling points). So, in your entry, you need to show what are the key selling points or benefits of this Reversalist range, and who would need it (women in their 40s).

These 2 points are very important because if you did not show it clearly, then it will be difficult for us and for ANEW to review your entries because we will not know which ad is for which age group. Don’t you think so? ;)

Remember, we are looking for beauty ads that stand out from other beauty ads you’ve ever seen. So show us your talent!

Looking forward to see your creations, guys! ;)
